A great trip for wildlife enthusiasts short on time. Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is one of the least well known of the Project Tiger Reserves. This reserve sees far fewer visitors and has less restrictions than Central india’s other parks whilst tiger sightings are excellent. A more exclusive experience.

DAY 01 ARRIVE TADOBA

Tadoba Andheri Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserves in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra state in central India. It is notable as Maharashtra’s oldest and largest national park. It is one of India’s 41 “Project Tiger” – tiger reserves.

Legend holds that Taru was a village chief who was killed in a mythological encounter with a tiger. A shrine dedicated to the God Taru now exists beneath a huge tree, on the banks of the Tadoba Lake. The temple is frequented by adivasis, especially during the fair held every year in the Hindu month of Pausha, between December and January.

The Gond kings once ruled these forests in the vicinity of the Chimur Hills. Hunting was completely banned in 1935. Two decades later, in 1955, 116.54 km2 (45.00 sq mi) was declared a national park. Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was created on the adjacent forests in 1986, and in 1995, both the park and the sanctuary were merged to establish the present tiger reserve.

Svasara Jungle Lodge: The new and award-winning Svasara Jungle Lodge is located at Tadoba Tiger Reserve in the Vidarbha Region of Maharashtra, Central India. Svasara is an upmarket, eco-lodge set over a sprawling 10-acres with beautiful views of the Tadoba hills and the forest. At Svasara, you experience an indigenous jungle with uniquely designed guest areas from the outside, while inside the lodge you relax in the comfort of elegant luxury set in safari chic interiors. Svasara is a stone’s throw from Tadoba’s Kolara Gate. The lodge is 100 kilometres (2-hours driving distance) from the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra.

A great trip for wildlife enthusiasts short on time. Pench National Park: located in the Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, is the 19th Project Tiger Reserve and has been one of the best-kept secrets among wildlife enthusiasts who have long been acquainted with and bedazzled by its immensely varied flora and fauna. No wonder the area providing a backdrop for it’s animal character dominated by fairly open canopy of mixed forest, predominantly teak, with open grassy patches, the park with its undulating land boasts the highest density of herbivores in any Indian park.

It has a large diversity of wildlife, including leopard, tiger, jungle cat, dhole (wild dog), sloth bear, wild boar, mongoose, gaur cheetal (spotted deer) and sambar. Pench was the setting for the BBC documentary “Tiger spy in the Jungle”

Jamtara Wilderness Lodge: Situated in the village of Jamtara, near Pench National Park, Jamtara Wilderness Lodge is a 12 luxury tented property in the heart of rural Pench. Surrounded by tall arjuna trees and an ancient banyan rooted on a dry riverbed, each tented room overlooks the forest which set the perfect background to this jungle experience.

Each luxury tent is designed to feel light and open, allowing guests the optimum view of nature. With the option of rolling up the front panels of the tent, the guests can bring the outside in but still being in the privacy of their own rooms. Although, these are tented rooms, the bathroom has been made into a permanent structure for the comfort of the guests.

While many may sleep inside the tent, some may feel a little more connected with nature and have the option of sleeping outside on their patio. Mosquito netting will keep the bugs away, quilts and hot water bottles will keep the cold away.

Since we also believe in supporting the community of our lodge, a “Machaan” night can be booked while generating revenue for the farmers. Here the concept is sleeping under the stars, just like the villagers. These Machaans are built on the land of the farmers and an amount of the night’s rate will be paid to the farmer. Sleeping up high on stilts will allow you to watch the sky and everything below. You never know what may walk through the farms at night.
