Tiger Watching and Wildlife Safaris
Our private Indian wildlife safaris are designed for clients who are seeking the freedom of a flexible and superior wildlife experience. Our tours are suitable for any number of guests travelling together including single travellers and groups of friends.
Game Drives
Game drives on wildlife safaris are usually conducted in six-seater Suzuki Gipsy 4×4 type vehicles which are well suited to the narrow park roads. Guests are accompanied by a driver, a national park ranger (to ensure the park rules are not infringed) and a highly qualified English speaking naturalist/guide who will answer your questions on both Indian wildlife as well as the culture to enrich your experience. As a general rule there are two or three guests maximum on the drives; larger numbers require a second vehicle.
Individual park rules dictate the exact time of game drives but as a general rule two drives or activities are usually possible. Morning game drives start at dawn and finish mid-morning with breakfast within the reserve. Afternoon drives start mid-afternoon and returning at dusk. The more popular parks are closed to the public during the middle of the day and many are also closed one day a week to give the wildlife a bit of respite.
Activities in most parks are limited to game drives within the core areas, with some parks also offering night drives, boat safaris, elephant-back safaris, canoeing and walking usually within the buffer zones.
Lodge and Hotel Accommodation
The accommodation used ranges from mid-range to top-end luxury safari lodges, most accommodation is located in the buffer zones just outside the park gates.
The Tiger Experience
New rules introduced in 2012 have greatly reduced the number of visitors in the most popular parks at any one time and also the number of visitors allowed on each sighting. Whilst the new rules have made the game viewing more challenging, locating a tiger or leopard by a combination of following the pug marks and listening for warning calls of monkey and deer is incredibly thrilling and satisfying. Even when the tigers are being elusive there is usually plenty of other species to view and the birding in most parks is usually exceptional.
Details of the wildlife that may be seen in specific parks can be found on our Tiger Reserves and National Parks page.
Indian Culture, Experiential & Beach Holidays
Whilst Indian Wildlife Holidays specialize in wildlife safaris many of our tours include a cultural or general interest element and where not included, they can usually be added to the itinerary. Many of the reserves involve an interesting road transfer through towns and villages to reach them so you do get a fascinating insight into daily Indian life on route. Please view our Safari Tours page to see the range of tours we have on offer.
Our Safari Tours
Our private, flexible, Indian wildlife safaris have been designed to provide the best possible wildlife experience, with the focus in most cases on viewing the wild tigers for which India is famous. Where practical, these unique safaris have been combined with some of the best cultural and historical attractions in India.
