This short tour is suitable for people who have limited time and a desire to visit Shimla the summer retreat of the British rulers of India during the time of the Raj. The tours will appeal to guests visiting India on business, independent travellers or clients on other organised tours who wish to have a flying visit to an Indian highlight not included in their tour. This tour is a lovely extension at the start or finish of our private wildlife and cultural tours.

This great trip includes a not-to-be-missed “toy train” ride through a beautiful region of northern India to visit Shimla, the summer capital of British India, and an optional extension to visit a winter ski resort in the foothills of the Himalayas.
DAY 01 DELHI – KALKA – SHIMLA
After breakfast you will be transferred to New Delhi railway station to board train for Kalka.
Delhi – Kalka Kalka Shatabdi Express – 07:40/11:45 hrs
Kalka – Shimla Himalayan Queen – 12:10 /17:20 hrs
From Kalka you will connect with the narrow gauge Toy Train to Barog followed by a private car transfer to Shimla.
Upon arrival in Shimla, transfer to hotel. Stay overnight at Shimla.
Shimla: The capital of Himachal state and was the summer capital of British India during raj times, named after deity Shamla Devi (another name of Goddess Kali) and the setting for the channel 4 drama series “Indian Summer” The city still retains much of its colonial heritage in a variety of architecture, such as Viceregal Lodge, Command House, Gaiety Theatre, Town Hall, and Christ Church on The Ridge. DAY 02 SHIMLA
After breakfast we will start the heritage walk of Shimla by walking through the town’s Architectural Heritage Zone that brings you close to various architectural sites of the British era. Most of the buildings are still in use. Christ Church, The Ridge, Bandstand, Gaiety Theatre, Scandal Point, Railway Board Building, Gortan Castle, Museum (Museum is closed on Monday and on all government holidays), Viceregal Lodge.

DAY 03 (Option 2) SHIMLA – KUFRI – NALDEHRA – SHIMLA
After breakfast proceed for an excursion to Kufri & Naldehra.
Kufri, a winter ski resort and during summer, there are pony and horse riding. Also visit the unique Himalayan Zoo.

DAY 03 (Option 1) / DAY 04 (Option 2) SHIMLA – KALKA – DELHI
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to Kalka railway station to board your train for Delhi .
Train departs Kalka at 17:45hrs and arrives Delhi at 21:55hrs.
Upon you arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
